It's been a wild ride getting here, but here I am, ready to kick this thing off.

First of all, let me introduce myself.

My name is Yang Yanling - I prefer the name Sybil for business relationships. It's the name I got to pick, rather than the one I was given.

Growing up in the small Sichuan, China city of Yibin, on the edge of the beautiful and poetic region known as the Bamboo Sea, I was always the "smart girl" - the one who had all the questions, and wanted all the answers. Needless to say, I didn't fit in well in the small town world, and I had to get out.

So I moved to the big city - Chengdu. Many people in the West have never heard of this city, but it is a beautiful sprawling megopolis of over 12 million people. Its parks and universities and shopping malls rival or exceed the best in Europe or the US. The typical Chinese residential towers rise on every horizon, with malls, shopping, and often metro stations at each major intersection. Life in Chengdu, compared to other areas like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, or the famous business center of Shenzhen, is more relaxed and peaceful. Everyone loves hot pot - which is always a meal that takes leisurely time - and carries a little jar of their favorite tea. Of course, it's famous for our beloved panda bears - along with the Dragon, the de facto symbol of all China.

I went to a university in Chengdu - the Sichuan Tourism University. Now, most people wonder... why would a person who aspires to be a lawyer and businessperson go to a "tourism university"? Well, in China we do things a little differently, and tourism universities tend to be the best for learning business English.

So off I went, and earned a four year degree in business English. It turned out I have a knack for language, and found that I soon could "think" in English, rather than having to "translate in my head." I began watching more Western TV shows - sitcoms and dramas like "How I Met Your Mother" and "Young Sheldon" and "Breaking Bad." From these I picked up US and western slang. Just like Chinese slang, the real meaning of something can be very different from how it literally translates!

From there, my interest turned to law. I wasn't really sure I wanted to be a full time lawyer, but I knew that having the education and credential could help me very much in my eventual plans to go into business. In fact, Chinese law strictly regulates how much a practicing lawyer can do outside the law field.
So I got my Masters in Law degree from Guizhou Minzu University, passed the exam, and worked for a law firm for a year to lock in that credential. I then went to work for an international product sales company, and learned sales in the US, European, and Middle Eastern markets.

After leaving that company, I began consulting, slowly at first. Now, I'm ready to take the next steps, begin increasing my client base, and start helping other companies make the most of the opportunities such a complex and confusing world we find ourselves in present.

Yes, the world is chaotic an uncertain - but times like these are always the times that bring the greatest fortune to the bold, the prepared, and those who have a great team of partners behind them.
